<image:title>Blog - Where to See Blossoms and Blooms in London - Hyde Park & Kensington Palace</image:title>
<image:caption>Central London’s largest green space is the perfect place for a springtime stroll. You’ll find flowers dotted across Hyde Park, but there are also several dedicated gardens, including: Hyde Park Rose Garden: Usually in full bloom in early summer, this garden is filled with roses of every color planted in winding paths. Italian Gardens: At the northern edge of the park, the Italian Gardens are a series of fountains and flower boxes looking out over the park’s main body of water, Long Water. There is also a cafe and several statues and landmarks nearby, like the Peter Pan statue. Kensington Palace Gardens: You can see plenty of flowers and blossoms surrounding Kensington Palace. Near the entrance, you’ll find a sprawling field of flowers, transforming from daffodils in early spring to a wildflower meadow in summer. The Sunken Garden is also a beautiful floral display with a vine-covered path, creating a peaceful setting for the Princess Diana memorial.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Where to See Blossoms and Blooms in London - Regent’s Park</image:title>
<image:caption>Regent’s Park has always held a special place in my heart after living nearby when studying abroad, and it is one of my favorite places to experience the beauty of spring in London. While there are blooms throughout the park, these are some of the most beautiful areas in spring: Broad Walk: This iconic tree-lined pathway is one of the most popular places in the spring. I highly recommend planning your visit on a weekday morning if you’re lucky enough to catch the park at peak bloom. Throughout the spring, this area of Regent’s Park will have daffodils, magnolias, cherry blossoms, and beautifully arranged floral displays. Queen Mary’s Rose Garden: In early summer, this garden feels like something out of Alice in Wonderland. Wander through winding pathways to see unique rose varieties labeled with quirky names, creating a sea of color. St. John’s Lodge: Tucked away behind the rose garden is a small hidden oasis that was once the gardens of the neighboring villa. You’ll find vine-covered paths, sculptures, and seasonal flower displays.</image:caption>

Grab a coffee from one of the many amazing cafes on Portobello Road and stroll down the streets of colorful houses to find equally vibrant blossoms. This picture is of a gorgeous corner on Stanley Crescent - a very popular spot for photo ops, but please be mindful of residents if you stop for a picture here or in any other residential neighborhoods.</image:caption>

In the spring, this historic palace has wisteria draping over the windows of the cafe and climbing along the edges of the walled garden. At nearby Bishop’s Park, you can stroll through lush greenery and peaceful fountains or walk along the Thames Path for views across the river.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Holland Park is slightly off the beaten path from the main parks in Central London, but it’s well worth the extra steps. Here you’ll find the serene Kyoto Gardens, a slice of Japan in London, complete with a waterfall, koi pond, and wandering peacocks. During tulip season, head to the Dutch Gardens to see the sprawling tulip beds amongst the architecture of a former castle that is now the open-air venue for the Holland Park Opera. There is also a cafe and a restaurant within a park, and plenty of paths for leisurely strolls.</image:caption>

If you don’t have the time for a Cotswolds getaway, a visit to Richmond is a close second. Peruse the quaint shops and linger in the cozy pubs around Richmond Green or spot a few deer among the changing leaves of Richmond Park. <image:title>Blog - London Study Abroad Guide - How to get a visa for studying abroad</image:title>
<image:caption>Whether you’re studying through a UK or international university, your program should provide guidance on whether or not you need a visa. If you’re staying for less than 6 months, you can study on a tourist visa and will only have to apply for the Electronic Travel Authorization, which costs £16 and is usually approved within 24 hours. If your program lasts longer or you’re pursuing an entire degree in the UK, your institution will provide all the information you need for applying for a student visa. The visa process is lengthy and expensive, so it’s best to familiarize yourself with the requirements here. The application is typically submitted after you’ve been accepted to a program, so I highly recommend starting your academic application as soon as possible.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - London Study Abroad Guide - Finding student accommodation in London</image:title>
<image:caption>Your university should provide access to student accommodation. International students are usually guaranteed a place in on-campus housing, and some programs might require you to live in approved residences. If not, many students find flexible housing with roommates through Spareroom. (ad - previously gifted stay/commission earned on bookings) You could also look into renting a short-term, furnished flat through Blueground. I am a Blueground affiliate, and if you use code MADbg482 on this booking form you can get a bit of a discount!</image:caption>

<image:caption>From London, there are plenty of train services to Oxford, but I would highly recommend taking the Oxford Tube. The Oxford Tube is a bus that runs between London and Oxford and is much more comfortable than many of the trains I’ve been on in the UK. It has really comfy seats, wireless phone chargers, and air conditioning at every seat. It was such a nice way to travel on a hot, summer day and avoid the chaos of train stations on the weekends. You can hop on the Oxford Tube at London Victoria, Shepherd’s Bush, or Hillingdon for an hour/ hour and a half journey. A round trip ticket cost £24.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Oxford Day Trip Guide - Exploring Oxford University</image:title>
<image:caption>Exploring Oxford University is a big draw for tourists, but it takes some planning to fully experience the beauty of this historic campus. Many of the academic buildings have ticketed entry and can sell out on busier days. I would recommend booking the spots you’d really like to see in advance - especially places like Christ Church College as it was a Harry Potter filming location. Some of the Oxford colleges are free to the public. I was able to explore St Edmund Hall and Lincoln College without a ticket.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to stay cool in London during a heatwave - Staying cool on the Tube</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the worst parts of heatwaves in London is getting on the Tube, which is already very warm throughout the year. Try to avoid the older lines as much as possible (Jubilee, Victoria, Central, Bakerloo) as they tend to be the stuffiest. New lines like the Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, District, and Circle lines all have air conditioning. If you have to get on a sweltering train I highly recommend carrying water, a handheld fan (aff. link), or even ice packs to cool you down.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to stay cool in London during a heatwave - Finding air conditioning</image:title>
<image:caption>When you’re in Central London, many of the bigger shops and museums will have air conditioning. Art galleries are always a safe bet as they need to be tempature controlled to protect the art (Tate Britain is one of my favorites and usually a bit less crowded than the National Gallery or Tate Modern). The John Lewis on Oxford Street is another great option with multiple cafes and several floors to wander if you need a break to soak up the cool air. This is also something to keep in mind when booking a hotel, as a lot of the more historic buildings might not have AC. I recently stayed at The Clermont (aff. link) and their air con was so refreshing!</image:caption>

<image:caption>The warm temperatures are a great excuse to try as many of London’s ice cream shops as possible. Some of my favorites are La Gelateria in Covent Garden, Ice Cream Union in Chelsea, and Big Kid Ice Cream in Soho. There are also ice cream vans dotted around the major parks. Soft-serve ice cream with a chocolate flake is a must for the true British summer experience.</image:caption>

I was very excited that St. Mary’s invites visitors to enjoy the panoramic views of Rye from their rooftop. It cost £5 and was a self-guided walk to the top of the church. The views are absolutely spectacular, however I would not recommend this to anyone who is not great with heights or small spaces. <image:caption>For a breath of fresh air, you can’t beat the stunning Seven Sisters Cliffs. From London, it requires a train journey to Eastbourne, a bus ride to the visitor centre, and a bit of a walk - but I promise it’s well worth it! Be sure to spot the iconic cottages featured in Atonement and cross the pebbly beach to swim with the cliffs towering above. For more of a workout, you can also hike along the cliffs to get spectacular sea views.</image:caption>

I love wandering the cobblestone streets and seeing all of the quaint, ancient houses. You can’t miss strolling down the iconic Mermaid Street and I highly recommend climbing to the top of St. Mary’s Church for panoramic views. The New College Library was under renovation when I attended, but it looks absolutely beautiful and I’m very jealous of all the current students who get to study there! For cafes, check out Black Medicine Coffee, Cairngorms Coffee, Soderberg Cafes, Fortitude Coffee, and Hideout Cafe. It’s such an easy day trip - you can go from the bustling city to lounging in the sun listening to the waves crashing in just under an hour. The town has plenty of cafes and shops so if the weather takes a turn, you can always take cover and get a coffee while you wait for the sun to come back out.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Edinburgh Summer Bucket List - Explore Holyrood Park</image:title>
<image:caption>Many people put climbing Arthur’s Seat at the top of their Edinburgh bucket list, but it’s quite a strenuous walk that might not be for everyone. However, Holyrood Park is so beautiful, that it’s still worth exploring even if you’re not up to the bigger hikes. The walk around St. Margaret’s Loch is stunning with swans and views of Arthur’s Seat and the ruins of St. Anthony’s Chapel in the background. The walk towards Duddingston is also very scenic and you can visit the oldest pub in Scotland while you’re there! If you’re still looking to get views of the city and do a bit of hiking, my favorite path is to start at St. Margaret’s Loch and walk along Queen’s Drive until you get to Dunsapie Loch. From there, climb up the grassy hills until you can see the city below. I find this route a lot easier to navigate and you still get great views and a decent workout. There’s also usually an ice cream van near Dunsapie Loch which is the ultimate post-hike treat!</image:caption>

A short bus ride from Morningside, the farm is at the foot of the Pentland Hills and has gorgeous natural scenery and views of the city . There are cows in a field near the entrance, but you can also venture up into the hills to spot the free-roaming herds. Swanston Farm has a brasserie where you can enjoy a meal after your time with the cows - I highly recommend going in the morning for their delicious breakfast!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Cambridge Day Trip Itinerary - Visiting Cambridge University as a tourist</image:title>
<image:caption>When you arrive, you’ll likely be eager to explore the beautiful campus of Cambridge University. It’s very walkable and I highly recommend wandering to take in all the ornate architecture. However, because it is a working university, many of the buildings are closed to the public or require tickets to visit. I booked tickets for King’s College Chapel, which also includes entry to the surrounding gardens and the bridge to cross the River Cam (the tickets are a bit cheaper if you book online for a weekday). The Chapel is famous for its spectacular stained glass and the self-guided tour meant I could take my time admiring all the little details. After the tour, walk through the gardens to the river, where you’ll spot some of Cambridge’s iconic punting boats. You can book these boats to get a scenic tour of the city from the river, but it’s also just fun to see them as you stroll and explore.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Cambridge Day Trip Itinerary - Where to eat in Cambridge</image:title>
<image:caption>I grabbed lunch at Fitzbillies, a local bakery with multiple locations. If the weather’s good enough, they have a great selection of takeaway picnics, with sandwiches, pastries, and even afternoon tea for you to enjoy in one of Cambridge’s many green spaces. I sat in Jesus Green and had a lovely view of the river while I ate my lunch.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Cambridge Day Trip Itinerary - The Fitzwilliam Museum</image:title>
<image:caption>A large portion of my day was spent wandering The Fitzwilliam Museum, a massive gallery of art and artifacts. It’s worth a visit for the dramatic architecture alone, but I was particularly interested in their collection of Impressionist paintings and Classical sculptures. The University also has eight other museums and a botanical garden if art isn’t your thing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Cambridge Day Trip Itinerary - The Charming Streets of Cambridge</image:title>
<image:caption>I finished my visit to Cambridge with a wander through the quaint streets of shops and restaurants in the city center. There are plenty of unique independent businesses, including some very lovely bookshops.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - In my matcha era</image:title>
<image:caption>This trip to London was the start of my newfound obsession with matcha. All of the fun flavors available in London piqued my curiosity and I was instantly hooked. If you’re a matcha newbie like me, Blank Street’s flavored matchas were a great starting point - I was a big fan of the Daydream and Strawberry Shortcake flavors. I also tried Jenki’s iconic collaboration with Condiment Claire, the vanilla sea salt matcha, which quickly became another favorite.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Word on the Water Bookshop</image:title>
<image:caption>I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to finally visit one of London’s most beloved bookshops. Word on the Water is a beautifully bohemian bookshop on a canal boat just behind King’s Cross. Every inch is covered in books and literary paraphernalia, with a surprisingly impressive selection in such a small space.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Burgh House</image:title>
<image:caption>At this point, I’ve visited most museums in London, so it’s always exciting to find something new. I visited Burgh House in Hampstead on one of my last days in London and it was the perfect little solo date. It’s one of the oldest houses in the area and is now a gorgeous art gallery. They primarily showcase local artists and currently have a special exhibition on children’s book illustrators. On the lower level, they have a lovely cafe that serves coffee, cakes, and light lunches. You can take your food and drinks to enjoy in the garden courtyard with sweet little tables tucked among the flowers and trees. I’m planning to be back in London this summer and am going to make it my mission to sit in that courtyard on a warm, sunny day!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Don’t Tell Dad Bakery</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’ve spent any time on London recommendation TikTok recently, you’ve definitely seen the excitement for the new Queen’s Park bakery, Don’t Tell Dad. It’s taken the internet by storm for good reason and I’m so glad I got to visit on this trip. My friends and I had already ordered when they started putting freshly baked pain au chocolat on the counter and we immediately got back in the queue. It was well worth the extra wait because it was one of the best pastries I’ve had. They also had great iced lattes that we enjoyed in the park on one of the first sunny days of March.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Mexican Restaurants</image:title>
<image:caption>London has a reputation for some questionable Mexican restaurants, but that seems to be changing as I had delicious meals at both Catalina’s in Fitzrovia and Corrochio’s in Dalston. Catalina’s is a tiny restaurant that serves great street tacos, while Corrochio’s is a beautifully decorated spot with incredible guacamole and birria tacos.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Godfrey’s Popcorn</image:title>
<image:caption>Another viral spot, Godfrey’s is a gourmet popcorn shop in Covent Garden that is absolutely delightful. From the vintage movie theatre aesthetics to the delicious popcorn flavors, it’s such a fun shop to visit. I got a mix of buttery and caramel popcorn and would highly recommend both.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Breadstall Pizza</image:title>
<image:caption>Tucked away in Soho, Breadstall Pizza is another spot that has made the rounds online with its tempting pizzas. As soon as I heard they had a vodka sauce pizza, I was desperate to try it for myself. The pizza was as delicious as it looks and the restaurant has a really fun, lively energy.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January - March 2025 London Favorites - Bàrd Books</image:title>
<image:caption>I went to my first-ever pub quiz in February that just so happened to be in a bookshop. Bàrd Books hosted a hilarious Valentine’s Day-themed quiz night and it was so fun to test our knowledge of romantic moments throughout literature. We may or may not have come in dead last, but as a group of Americans in London, there are still some UK pop culture references we just don’t get. Highly recommend keeping an eye out for their future bookish events.</image:caption>
