Where to find the best matcha in London
As a new matcha fan, I’ve learned that finding good matcha is always a gamble. Are you going to get gorgeous, hand-wisked, bright green matcha or sad, unappetizing swamp water?
I spent the last few months trying as many matchas in London as I could get my hands on and have rounded up my favorites to help you avoid ordering the vaguely flavored green milk that some cafes try to pass off as a matcha latte.
Here are my top picks for the best matcha in London.
Jenki
London’s favorite matcha cafe is popular for good reason. With collaborations with foodie influencers and a range of wellness-based matcha recipes, Jenki is my go-to. I’m obsessed with the salted vanilla Condiment Claire collab and am always on the lookout for their next seasonal flavor.
You can find Jenki in Selfridges, Borough Market, and Covent Garden.
Frothee
Frothee has gained a lot of attention online for their hand-wisked matcha, flavored lattes, and sleek aesthetic. Owned by a father-daughter duo, the cafe has such a wholesome energy and the staff are all so friendly. I highly recommend the brown sugar matcha with salted vanilla cold foam and a strawberry matcha bun if you can get one before they sell out on the weekends.
You can find Frothee in King’s Cross.
Katsute 100
At Katsute 100, you can get matcha is every form imaginable. From lattes to baked goods to soft serve, this Japanese tearoom offers unique ways to get your matcha fix. The serene cafes are also the perfect escape from bustling London.
You can find Katsute 100 in Islington, Broadway Market, Brick Lane, and the top floor of the Uniqlo in Covent Garden.
Matchado
If fruity, flavored matcha lattes are your thing, you will love Matchado. Strawberry and matcha a match made in heaven and this is my favorite strawberry matcha latte in London. If you’re looking to try your hand at some at-home matchas, Matchado also sells everything you need to get started.
You can find Matchado in Chiswick and Coal Drops Yard.
Hagen
For simple, high quality matcha, Hagen is a great option. No fancy flavors, just lovely matcha lattes served in their bright, airy cafes. The Scandinavian chain of espresso bars brings a bit of Danish hygge to London, with 20 locations across the city.
Leigh’s
One of the most adorbale cafes in London also has some of the best matcha. Leigh’s in a neighborhood gem with a beautiful, laid back aesthetic, delicious baked goods and specialty coffees and matcha. Their housemade syrups are so good, with flavors like lavender and raspberry hibiscus.
You can find Leigh’s in De Beauvoir.
